Birthday Box

Here is another box I made little w for his birthday. Even after I witnessed him trying to rip one of the toys off the top, the box still held up. The glue I used should be called "toddler proof".

Tooth fairy pillow prototype

I decided to try my hand at making some crafty things for my little boy's kindy fundraiser. M bought these ridiculous cheap version Snuggies for our little family to wear at a friends party for a laugh. They have definately come in handy for this project. Had an idea for making a tooth pillow, which eventually became this prototype ...

Since its the first one, it needs a bit of tidying up. Overall I'm happy with the tooth shape, but worried that giving it a tutu, fairy wand and wings is too much. I was originally just going to make the tooth with a crown and tiny pocket on the back where you can keep your fallen tooth.

Hmmm ... perhaps I just need to make the wings bigger and drop them lower down the back; embroider the wand (instead of stick on a badly cutout bit of felt); and put the embroidered pocket on a little straighter.

Wonder how many of these I can knock out?

Embroidered charm

C had her birthday recently. Among a few crafty things in her giftbox, I added this little gem. I had no idea what to do with the finished embroidery, so I just made it into a little charm. Now I think of it ... it's the perfect size for a small clip purse!

Birfdees

Little c had her second birthday, so I made her a pencil case and matching drawstring bag/backpack. I used an old pair of jeans and skirt for the fabric. I'm way to cheap to buy fabric obviously!

Matching bag

I had a small bit of fabric left over from the pen roll, so quickly made a matching bag for his travel sketchpad.

Maybe it could fit some cars as well, a few rocks, insects, bit of muffin ... dirt even.

Pen roll up

Little m loves drawing with Micador marker pens, so I decided to make a little fabric roll so we could take some with us when we're out.

I used an old pair of jeans for the backing, to which I embroidered some cute mushrooms, and repurposed fabric from these tiny bags that a friend gave me for the inside. (Thanks C.)

Painted goog

I was asked by my Dad to paint an emu egg he had. He wanted it rendered as a cartoon of himself and his good friend Dave, caricatured as Fred and Barney from the Flintstones.

Oh the horror!

Here is the result. The natural colour and texture of the egg shell was really interesting, so I tried not to disguise it too much.

Sadly, Dad was disappointed.

An early inspiration

I had a huge collection of kinder surprise toys at one point in my life and decided to use them for a unique wedding gift. This photo is the early stages of what I eventually named the "Kinder surprise fantastical spiral of hope". (I was hoping for a decent toy - what a joke!). It ended up being three times this size. Eeeek! ... Who put that dreamcatcher there?

And here is the result. Terrible photo, I agree. Hopefully I will spend a bit more time on photographing my stuff in the future.
